The endless fight for Sherwood's Sallows
Once again, Sherwood Forest's relatively few Sallows have come in for the chop and once again, management of the Sherwood Forest NNR comes into question. Why do they persist in continuing to cut down Sallows, in the full knowledge that they are vital to the larva the Purple Emperor for about ten months of the year, and by hundreds of other insects as an early Spring nectar source. Sallow's are a vital component of woodland, yet why do we still continue to have problems with the cutting down of Sallows here.
