Eine verpfuschte Fortsetzung: A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 | Zusammenfassung und Review

The sequel to the horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street brings Freddy Krueger back to the big screen. At the same time, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Revenge is considered an iconic horror film for the LGBTQ community. But how can that be? A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 contains numerous references in the film's subtext that, upon closer inspection, make one thing clear: No Freddy Krueger film has ever been so gay. 00:00 A Gay (Night)mare 01:13 Gay References in Film 05:58 The Budgie and Wes Craven 08:35 Freddy the Party Crasher 10:40 Wes Craven Found A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 Silly 12:39 The Gay Subtext Explained 14:45 Conclusion and Rating Wes Craven and His Connection to A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Wes Craven was the creator and director of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2. Wes Craven had the opportunity to direct the second installment as well. However, he didn't like the script at all, and for good reasons: Wes Craven didn't like the idea of Freddy Krueger appearing outside the dream world so often. This would greatly weaken Freddy Krueger as a terrifying killer. When he chases teenagers twice his size around a pool, it doesn't seem scary, but rather incredibly embarrassing. And I can't add much to that. The staging of Freddy Krueger, the mask and the body horror elements, are well done, but everything surrounding it just doesn't fit. The film doesn't follow any rules regarding the killer, which means there's never any tension and everything just seems random. Conclusion and rating of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge is not a good film. The film manages to rob the source material of all its interesting facets: first, the dream sequences, and second, the menace of Freddy Krueger. Dreaming no longer plays a role in the sequel. Interesting dream concepts that blend logic, realism, and fantasy no longer appear. In the first part, we as viewers could never feel safe because it was unclear whether the overtired Nancy had just fallen asleep for a second and was therefore in mortal danger, or whether she was awake and we could catch our breath. In the second part, the danger is constantly present because Freddy Krueger can strike in the real world too. And that doesn't mean you're on the edge of your seat the whole time, but quite the opposite. It wears off very quickly. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 has some nice splatter scenes, but otherwise it's not very original and mostly boring. Added to that are unbearably clichéd dialogue and characters who behave stupidly. Robert Englund aka Freddy Krueger does a good job, but that's unfortunately the only thing I can get out of this film: the iconic killer Freddy Krueger is in it. If I hadn't read up on this "gay subtext" afterward, the film would have been a complete failure for me. However, it does give the film an interesting, socially critical meta-level. This makes A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 worth watching twice and viewing it from two different perspectives. From the perspective of the gay subtext, the film is very interesting, and I give it a 7.5/10. If I had to judge A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 on its own, based on its pure slasher or horror potential, I wouldn't give it more than 4 out of 10. Trailer: Scream. Queen!
