Discover coastal bliss in Episode 8 of Matches on the Map as we make the tranquil village of Zinkwazi Beach in KwaZulu‑Natal our home for a week and a half. Parked in front of a friend’s holiday home, we quickly connected with local community members. This laid‑back setting provided the perfect backdrop for our first recruitment drive right on the beach. If you dream of beach camping, seek tranquil travel, or love exploring South Africa’s hidden coastal gems, this episode captures the essence of working and relaxing by the sea. Our biggest challenge in small coastal towns often lies in the age demographic of early morning beach walkers. While ages 16 to 45 are eligible to register, we still managed to find three possible #MatchesOnTheMap on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. But the real magic was yet to come. Wendy approached us during the drive and extended an invitation to visit Sugar Bay Holiday Resort. This fun‑filled spot for teens and kids buzzed with energy and enthusiasm. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a warm lunch and offered a place to rest Betsy’s wheels for the evening. The next morning was unforgettable. We spoke to a cheering, singing, and smiling crowd at Sugar Bay, a young, healthy, and diverse group of staff who gave us a warm welcome. The result was phenomenal: 34 potential donors stepped forward, swabbed, and signed up as #MatchesOnTheMap. Zinkwazi’s charm, supportive community, and blue‑waved beaches made our stay memorable. During our time here, 41 individuals were added to the South African Bone Marrow Registry, making this stop a meaningful success for our mission.
