Portugalete traslada el euskaltegi municipal y zanja 35 años de «limitaciones»

The municipal Basque language school (euskaltegi) in Portugalete will move to the Ramón Real de Asua building, located on Casilda Iturrizar Street, starting next academic year. The mayor herself acknowledges that the center's situation was "untenable." The premises do not meet adequate accessibility standards and, furthermore, have suffered recurring problems with rainwater leaks, creating damp conditions that affect the normal development of educational activities. This change of location "has been a priority for years," explained María José Blanco. Different possibilities have been studied, but the lack of public or private spaces that met the necessary requirements has made it difficult to find a viable alternative until now. In its new location, the euskaltegi will share facilities with the Municipal Institute of Basic Vocational Training and the Adult Education Center (CEPA). The current number of students at both centers allows for a suitable coexistence, according to the mayor. The City Council will carry out minor renovations to create more classrooms and ensure full accessibility of the facility. The process has also involved all stakeholders. Both the management of the Adult Education Center and the faculty of the Basque language school (euskaltegi) have been consulted to assess this relocation.
