The President of Belarus made a working visit to the Krasnopolsky District of the Mogilev Region. During a visit to the Paluzh fish farm in the Krasnopolsky District, the Head of State was briefed on the fish farming industry's performance last year and its development prospects in the current five-year period, including measures to increase the production of valuable fish species. Currently, 16 fish farms and over 500 businesses of various types are engaged in fish production in Belarus. Moreover, over 80% of the country's fish resources are produced by fish farms. Fish production in 2025 amounted to 14,400 tons, including 12,900 tons of pond fish, 0,600 tons of valuable fish, and 0,900 tons of lake and river fish. According to Minister of Agriculture and Food Yuri Gorlov, with the construction of complexes similar to the Paluzh fish farm, production of valuable fish species is expected to increase to 3,000 tons by 2030. The head of state ordered that statistics be clarified to understand the industry's true prospects. "The statistics have been released, and we will be pleased that we have 20,000 by 2030, while in reality it will be 15,000. We need to double-check," said Alexander Lukashenko. As for valuable fish species, they are produced at six main fish farms, which account for 97% of the total production of such fish. The main production takes place in the Mogilev Region at the Lokhva Trout Farm. In 2025, the farm implemented investment projects to build valuable fish production facilities in the Krasnopolsky District and the urban settlement of Khotsimsk, each with a production capacity of 1,000 tons, as well as a facility for producing fertilized rainbow trout eggs in Cherikov. At the Paluzh fish farm, the President was also briefed on the development of a technology called carp farming in special cages. This method involves keeping fish in special net chambers, called cages, installed in bodies of water with a constant current or high flow rate. This ensures high fish density and the use of intensive feeding with compound feed. "I've seen these cages; Putin showed me some on lakes (in Karelia – Ed.). We went there specifically. It all looks very impressive. And very impressive," Alexander Lukashenko remarked. According to Yuri Gorlov, the use of this technology is planned to be expanded if it proves successful. "Of course it will. And why not? It's a lake within a lake—they just need a net to keep the fish from escaping," the Head of State said. During a visit to the Paluzh fish farm, Alexander Lukashenko ordered the replication of similar systems. "We need to fill the market with fish. Especially since there's an opportunity," Alexander Lukashenko stated. "We need to schedule Shuleiko and Isachenko (Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko and Chairman of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee Anatoly Isachenko – Ed.) to build ten such systems. We need to further scale them up." At the farm, the Head of State was introduced to the full technological cycle of rainbow trout farming: from eggs and fry to adults for subsequent sale and processing. The President was informed that the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation had developed a domestically produced feed with the necessary characteristics for industrial fish farming. It remains on the surface of the water for a long time and is completely absorbed by the fish. On site, the Head of State was shown the complete production cycle of the fish farm, including the operation of specialized water treatment and purification equipment, the feeding process, fish sorting by weight and size, cleaning, and pre-sale preparation. Samples of finished products were also on display, including smoked and salted rainbow trout fillets and red salmon caviar. The President tasted some of these. During his working visit, Alexander Lukashenko convened a meeting on the comprehensive socio-economic development of the southeastern region of the Mogilev Region.
