The M-06 Kyiv-Chop highway is the main transport highway of Transcarpathia, 120 km long within the region, and one of the key roads connecting Ukraine with the countries of the European Union. Thousands of cars and trucks travel along it every day, which creates a significant load on the road surface, the condition of which has deteriorated significantly after the winter. And finally, the highway began to be repaired. According to road workers, repairs to individual sections of the highway in Transcarpathia have not been carried out for more than ten years. And major repairs have not been carried out for about two dozen. Because of this, the road surface is gradually collapsing, and weather conditions only accelerate this process. Contractors have been identified, says Igor Fartushok, who immediately started work - and the volume is considerable in the plans. Currently, one company has been assigned to operate the highway according to the tender, which will continue to be engaged in repairs instead of 4. The most problematic section of the highway between Uzhhorod and Mukachevo still remains. The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development reports that the M-06 highway is included in the list of major state roads where repair work is being actively carried out this year. Due to the war, the load on the highway, in particular trucks, has increased several times. In addition to violations of the driver's work and rest regime and lack of documents, carriers are most often found to be non-compliant with weight and overall standards, says Mykhailo Bundziak. The specialist adds that the statistics are disappointing - the number of such violations is growing every year. While the work is ongoing, contractors are waiting for funding from the state budget, drivers hope that the restoration of the strategic road will be completed by the end of this year, as it will allow for increased traffic safety, reduced travel time and improved transport connections between Transcarpathia, other regions of Ukraine and the EU.
