Dr Percy Julian High School Construction Update ~ July 12 2026

Construction is officially underway on the brand-new campus for Dr. Percy L. Julian High School in Montgomery, Alabama. Breaking ground in July 2025 under Birmingham-based Doster Construction Company, the massive project is taking shape on a sprawling 126-acre site off the Eastern Bypass, near the intersection of North Eastern Boulevard and Todd Road. Designed by McKee & Associates, this state-of-the-art 6A facility will completely replace the school’s aging Ann Street location—the former Robert E. Lee High School, which was renamed in 2022 to honor the pioneering chemist. The expansive new layout features advanced, collaborative classrooms, a top-tier performing arts center, dedicated spaces for career and technical education, and heavily upgraded athletic facilities. Backed by capital improvement funding from a voter-approved property tax, the development is progressing rapidly with an expected substantial completion date in January 2028, promising a world-class learning environment for generations of Montgomery students.
