Sometimes You Have to Walk Away
Portugal's record-breaking heatwave forced us to stop work this week... and what should have been a simple job became one of our most frustrating yet. With Portugal gripped by another intense heatwave and temperatures climbing above 44°C (111°F), we had to make a difficult decision. Continuing work on our 100+ year old stone barn simply wasn't safe. The lime mortar we'd been carefully applying was drying far too quickly, and the risk of damaging the restoration was just too great. Instead, we turned our attention to our off-grid mushroom farm, hoping to make some progress inside the fruiting room container. But sometimes one challenge leads to another... What should have been a straightforward job of fitting a new partition wall & aluminium service door quickly turned into one of those frustrating DIY moments where nothing seemed to go right. After hours of trying to solve the problem in the sweltering heat, we realised something important: Sometimes the best thing you can do... is walk away. Not every week ends with a finished project, but every week teaches us something. If you've ever had one of those days where a project simply refuses to cooperate, we'd love to hear about it in the comments. Paddy & Lana ❤️ 🌿 If you're new here... We're Paddy & Lana out here In the Stix of Central Portugal. After leaving the UK, we're building an off-grid life in rural Portugal—restoring a traditional stone barn, creating a mushroom farm within shipping containers, and sharing the highs, the lows, and everything in between. If that sounds like your kind of adventure, we'd love to have you along for the journey. 🎬 Start from the beginning: • The First Step in Restoring Our Stone Barn 🌿 Follow our journey building an off-grid life in Central Portugal 🍄 Starting a small mushroom farm from scratch 🚜 Restoring land and living simply in the countryside 📘 Facebook: / inthestixportugal 📸 Instagram: @in.the.stix.portugal Thank you for being part of it with us! 😊 If you enjoyed the video, please give it a like 👍 and remember that you can help the channel by giving us a Hype.
