Hey, everybody, Ryan here at Etrailer. Today on our 2023 GMC Acadia, we're gonna be showing you how to install the CURT Trailer Hitch Receiver. Before we get into that though, let's just take a minute, check this out, and make sure it's gonna be right for you. One of the really nice things about this setup is the way it's gonna look. So for the most part, your hitch is gonna be completely hidden. You're not gonna see much of it. Until you're ready to use it, you can pop this panel off. So when not in use, you can put that in. There's two screws that you secure on the bottom here to hold it in place. And with it like that, it's hardly visible at all. You're gonna be able to see the receiver tube a little bit. You can hardly tell anything's there. And obviously, when you're ready, you drop that down. One of the things I noticed, the factory screws though that hold this panel in, they're Torx bit screws, so you'll have to get a Torx bit tool out to remove those whenever you wanna remove the panel. And so I could see that being a little annoying if I'm being honest. If I'm someone that uses the hitch all the time, I'd probably leave this off. If I had to do that every now and again, not a huge deal. Or, honestly, what came into my mind is you might be able to bring one of these to your hardware store, kinda go through some specialty hardware that they have, and you might be able to find something that'll work that might have like a T-handle or something you can operate by hand to replace those. Just a thought. But with that said, in terms of the appearance, one you really can't go wrong with. One of the big questions we do get asked quite a bit is in regards to your hands-free lift gate assist feature. And people wanna know, by having a hitch back here, is to get it interfere with it And the answer is no. You're just gonna have to kick your foot to either side of the receiver tube opening. Sensor will pick up that motion and open up your hatch. To compare this hitch to some of the other ones available. They're all gonna work fine, I mean, look pretty much the same. They're all gonna sit in the same location and not a ton of differences there. If it we're me, I would probably either go with this one or the etrailer.com one. Probably the Etrailer one. I just like the finish of it a little bit better. It's a matte black. That's just my preference. But the reason I say I'd go with them is 'cause they do have some higher capacity, so a little more versatile, but I just wanna throw that out there. This is gonna be a class three hitch though, which means it's gonna have the two-inch by two-inch receiver tube opening. Ton of different things to work with it. It's going to use that standard 5/8 pin and clip. Keep in mind, one doesn't come with the hitch. You need one, not a big deal. You can grab it here at Etrailer, or a lot of times, too, if you end up buying a new accessory, they'll come with one. So just something to think about. Safety chain openings are tucked back here a little bit, but with that panel off, they're really easy to get to and should allow us to use pretty much any size hook that our trailer might have on it. As far as the weight capacities go, this is gonna have a 750-pound maximum gross tongue weight rating, which is a pretty high number, and that's gonna be the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So that'll be more than enough for pretty much any size bike rack or cargo carrier, just to give an example there. as far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 5,000 pounds for the amount of weight that's pulling on the hitch. So the weight of your trailer plus anything that you might have on it. It can be used with the weight distribution system, which is a separate component. What happens when you use that, it's gonna keep your Acadia and your trailer level whenever you're towing it down the road. So that's pretty popular on campers, things like that. So if that's what you're doing, might be worth checking out. With the weight distribution, maximum gross tongue weight rating will remain the same at 750, however you'll get an extra thousand pounds out of the trailer weight, so that'll increase the 6,000. With that said, if you are gonna be doing some towing, I do recommend picking up some trailer wiring. On the Acadia, it's easy. It plugs right in behind the bumper. That way, all your lights will work.
