Best Settings for Forward Facing Sonar! | Dustin Connell

Dustin Connell, Bass Pro Tour angler, shares his go-to settings for forward-facing sonar on his Lowrance ActiveTarget 2 system. He prefers Palette 2 because it provides the best contrast for spotting fish and bait. To enhance visibility, he increases contrast to +15 or +20 in clear water, making fish and bait “glow” on the screen. In dirty water, he lowers the contrast to reduce clutter. His standard range is 100 feet, allowing him to see fish before making a cast, but he adjusts it to 40 feet when targeting fish in 25-30 feet of water. Beyond settings, Dustin emphasizes the importance of understanding how fish react to his bait in real time. He fine-tunes his sonar angle and positioning to keep his bait visible on the screen, ensuring precise presentations. By practicing his pitching technique and learning how to maneuver his trolling motor for optimal sonar coverage, he maximizes his ability to locate and catch fish effectively.
