Snow, Moon and Flowers ~ P. Sculthorpe. Piano exam piece. from Night Pieces The Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe studied at Melbourne University and then at Oxford University, Uk. He returned to Australia in 1961 and taught in the music department of Sydney University from 1963. He showed a strong interest in indigenous culture, which led him to reject the European avant-garde in favour of what he saw as a genuinely Australian style of composition. The three 'Night pieces' of 1971 - 'Snow, Moon and Flowers', 'Night' and 'Stars' - illustrate Sculthorpe's deep feeling for the delicacy and beauty of natural phenomena.
