The Hangers Way | Walks in Hampshire | Day 1 - Queen Elizabeth Country Park - Nr Noar Hill
The Hangers Way | 21 Mile Waymarked Footpath from Queen Elizabeth Country Park - Alton Railway Station Day 1 - Queen Elizabeth Country Park - Nr Noar Hill, Selbourne Last summer we hiked the Hanger's Way! We hadn't done much hiking with our packs so we split this beautiful 21-mile trail into two parts with a wild camp in the middle. A long slow 13 miles on day one, but it was a hot couple of days and the chilled pace was worth it for the views and it allowed us to take it easy and enjoy the mileage. It felt so great to be back out there - the legs certainly felt it at the end of day one, Max woke up on the floor thanks to a nice slow puncture in her Thermarest but despite that the walk back into Alton on day 2 was brilliant. *** The Hangers Way is a 21-mile long distance, waymarked footpath in East Hampshire, England. Its name originates from the Old English word ‘hangra’ meaning ‘a steeply wooded slope’, as the route includes a series of steep-sided hills. You can walk in either direction, so we started at Queen Elizabeth Country Park with the motivation of walking home (Alton). QE Country Park is the largest of Hampshire’s country parks, sitting at the foot of Butser Hill, the highest point of the South Downs National Park.
