Following a fire at the Söven fire station, all of the unit's vehicles were severely damaged or destroyed. At 11:02 p.m. on Monday evening (June 6, 2022), a passerby noticed smoke coming from the Söven fire station's vehicle bay and called for help. When the first members of the fire brigade arrived at the station shortly after the alarm, the medium-sized fire engine (MLF) was already fully engulfed in flames, and the fire had spread to the roof. The smoke was so thick that entering the bay without fire-resistant clothing and breathing apparatus was impossible. Three minutes after the initial alarm, the alarm level was raised to "B4," so in addition to the Hennef fire brigade, the Uckerath fire brigade and the Happerschoß fire brigade were also called to Söven. Several teams wearing breathing apparatus fought the fire using interior and exterior attack methods, as well as the turntable ladder. After the doors were opened, the unit's still-operational vehicles were driven out of the building one after the other. The fire was extinguished after approximately 90 minutes. A total of 80 emergency personnel from the Söven, Hennef, Happerschoss, and Uckerath fire departments were on scene. The incident commander was City Fire Inspector Markus Henkel. Three firefighters suffered mild smoke inhalation but were treated at the scene by paramedics. The MLF (Medium Fire Engine) was completely destroyed by the fire. The HLF 10 (Rescue Pumper), the SW 2000 (Hose Truck), and the MTF (Crew Transport Vehicle) are still operational but were severely damaged by smoke. Whether these vehicles can be used in the future will have to be determined by an expert. The turnout gear was also almost completely destroyed. Fire protection in the Söven fire department's area of ​​responsibility will initially be provided by the Hennef and Uckerath fire brigades and the Uthweiler fire brigade from Königswinter. The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated by the criminal police.
