🥁A fun and colorful percussion ensemble piece — “Hapimelo”! Performed by a special one-day ensemble of community musicians and members of the Chubu Percussion Association at Percussion Festival 2025 in NAGOYA. 🎶【“Hapimelo” — A Happy Melody for Percussion Ensemble】 Hapimelo is a piece I originally composed in 2021, and later revised specifically for this performance. It was initially written for the 5th anniversary concert of T.U. Percussion Ensemble (玎酉擊樂), a Taiwanese percussion group. The piece incorporates elements of pop music—especially inspired by Japanese idol-style J-POP—to make percussion engaging and enjoyable even for those who don’t usually listen to instrumental music. It is written to be highly flexible: it can be performed by as few as four players, but also scales up beautifully for large ensembles. Players are even encouraged to add instruments beyond those in the original score, allowing each group to bring their own personality to the piece. 🎬 This video features a live performance recorded at Percussion Festival 2025 in NAGOYA, hosted by the Chubu Percussion Association. The ensemble was formed specially for this event and included community musicians selected through open application, along with association members. The performers represented a wide range of backgrounds—from junior high school students to working adults and graduates of Japanese music conservatories. Although the festival is based in the Chubu region of Japan, participants also joined from more distant areas across the country.
