D-Day Paratrooper Describes Moment He First Killed A German Soldier In Trench Ambush | Remember WWII

This is an interview with WWII Veteran LTC Robert Chisholm of the 82nd Airborne Division. He joined the army at 17 and volunteered to be a paratrooper. He served in Operation Overlord aka D-Day and vividly describes the intense hedgerow fighting including an encounter with two germans on a motorcycle and sidecar. LTC Chisholm volunteered to take his friend's place on a dangerous patrol which resulted in him getting his first of three wounds. After Normandy and his recuperation from his wounds, he jumped in Holland during Operation Market Garden made famous by A Bridge Too Far. He participated in serious combat actions including one incident where he got face to face with the enemy. He also took on a German tank and won! After the liberation of Holland, his unit took part in the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded a German artillery bombardment after a shell hit a tree which made the shrapnel his LTC Chisholm in the face and legs.
