In this video, I delve into magical thinking OCD, a subtype of OCD characterized by excessive superstitions and magical thinking. I explain how superstitions are harmless until they lead to mental compulsions and compulsive behaviours. I also discuss common examples and underlying drivers of magical thinking in OCD, such as inflated responsibility, the need for certainty, and guilt. Finally, I share my top three tips to help manage this type of OCD: deflating the responsibility balloon and increasing comfort with uncertainty.
