Located in the Xitou Nature Education Park (Xitou Forest Recreation Area) in Lugu Township, Nantou County, it is one of the seven forest camps of the Experimental Forest of the Agricultural College of National Taiwan University. The area is planted with fir, cypress, red cypress, ginkgo and Mengzong bamboo. Towering ancient trees and forest roads extend in all directions. In addition to recreation and forest bathing, exhibition halls, bamboo specimen gardens, university ponds, Shenmu, and Mengzong bamboo forests are all suitable for systematic plant observation and bird watching activities. Xitou can be described as a living nature classroom. There are about 300 species of woody plants and 1,300 species of herbaceous plants in the area. In addition to the instructions on the plant signs, it is located in the exhibition hall on the second floor of the Xitouying Forest District Office. There are a wealth of plant specimens on display, together with slides, charts and text descriptions, which are clear at a glance. There are about 70 species of birds in Xitou. It is recommended that you bring a Taiwan Bird Guide and a telescope that is about eight times larger to see the most representative birds in the middle of Taiwan in the area. The University Pool is named after Xitou is affiliated with National Taiwan University. There is a uniquely shaped bow-shaped bamboo bridge with a length of five or six feet. Walking on it, it swings from side to side, and occasionally a light mist floats up like a dream. The bamboo forest of Meng Zong is known for its beautiful forest and tranquil atmosphere. The "Bamboo House" hidden among the bamboo forests was once the residence of Chiang Kai-shek. The sacred tree of Xitou, which has a history of more than 2,800 years, is 46 meters high and 16 meters in size. It is a huge living red cypress. The middle of the tree is hollow due to the erosion of decay bacteria. It has survived because of the low economic value of felling. Become a sacred tree for people to appreciate.
