Effectively Disable the VW Immobilizer 4 (IMMO4)
This video is applicable to many modern ignition systems but is specifically for the Push-to-Start Volkswagens made between 2005.5 and 2010. I didn't want to pay a locksmith or the dealer between $150 and $600 for a new push-to-start key so I developed a method to effectively disable the immobilizer 4 ignition control system. Please be warned, this is effectively like leaving the key in the ignition. However, despite the immobilizer being disabled, no one needs to know, the doors can still be locked, and the alarm still activated. New or used fobs can be found on Amazon and eBay. There are 2 independent radio interfaces in the fob. First is the keyless entry radio transmitter. This is the part which requires a battery and can be seen as the circuit board inside the fob. This part sends an encrypted radio frequency transmission to the car and works tens of feet away. This part can be authenticated with aftermarket tools by vehicle owners. The second radio interface contained in the fob is known as RFID. It is the same technology that is used to micro chip our pets, tap to pay with our credit cards, and pay for our gas with Mobil SpeedPass. These devices have a micocoil that is energized by an electromagnetic field in the reader. The coil generates enough electricity to power a micro transmitter which broadcasts an encrypted numeric code. This code is received by the reader. In the case of the immobilizer systems if the code doesn't match that which is stored in the cars computer, the computer won't authorize a start sequence. Dealers and locksmiths are the only people who can typically program the car's computer system to recognize the unique number in each of these different RFID chips. I show how to remove the RFID Chip from the remote and where to place it near the immobilizer to fake the immobilizer into thinking that a proper key has been inserted into the ignition.
