The album was recorded in 2000 and released on Thirsty Ear's Blue Series. On this album, pianist Matthew Shipp leads a quartet with trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith, bassist William Parker and drummer Gerald Cleaver. Jazz as we knew it had changed over the decades, what we first fell In love with, the bop, hard-bop- and soul jazz of the late 1950’s is still our first love; however, the “branches” have spread and the music has changed. We are starting to hear the history and the roots of “Straight Jazz” in many of the albums. I think we can agree that having Billy Higgins on this album helped us find the 50’s.
