Serving God's Way by Moussa Wiyanga (2 Corinthians 12:11-21)
God’s way calls a disciple to live what looks “crazy” to a world that cuts corners. The call to serve patiently steps forward first. Paul shows that call by enduring beatings, insults, stones, and the pressure of “super-apostles,” yet the text says the signs of a true apostle were done “with utmost patience, with signs and wonders and mighty works.” The way of patience keeps serving when times change, when people change, and when plans get hit. Patience may be bitter, but its fruit is delicious. The crown belongs to the one who fights the good fight, finishes the race, and keeps the faith. The practice of dedication then widens: the disciple prays without letting up, worships God with finances even when it stretches the heart, and presents the body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable. Faith becomes the hinge. Without faith it is impossible to please God, so the believer asks God for faith and holds it till Christ returns. The hope fixed on that day shapes the grind of today. The love of a spiritual parent becomes the second principle. Paul refuses to burden the Corinthians, chooses to “spend and be spent” for their souls, and keeps loving even when he is misunderstood and accused. The Father in the story of the prodigal son stands as the picture: open arms, no scorekeeping, joy when the foolish come home. Love is patience. Love does not fade when people misread motives or resist correction. Love stays at the door, ready to receive. The tension between growth and setback forms the third word. Service is for God in the plenty and in the lack. Paul knows how to be brought low and how to abound, and the disciple learns that same secret. When those once served drift back into sin, service is not wasted. Jesus’ arms are open wide. Mercy is near for the one who says, “I have sinned, pardon me.” The call to keep going stands firm: testify to Christ, even if the fruit is seen twenty years later. Blessed are the persecuted. The way is the same. Serving God’s way is always the best way. Key Takeaways 1. Serve patiently when others fail Patience keeps the hands at the plow when praise dries up and plans fall apart. Paul’s scars do not silence his gospel, they season it. Patience is bitter in the moment, but its fruit is strong and sweet. The crown sits on the other side of steadfast work. [03:59] 2. Love those who misunderstand you Love spends and gets spent, and then loves again. The Father’s open arms to a foolish son become the pattern for ministry that refuses to keep score. Misreading and suspicion do not cancel spiritual parenthood. Real love outlasts the noise. [18:50] 3. Keep the faith to finish The race is long, so faith becomes breath for the soul. Without it, nothing pleases God, and with it, even small obediences shine. The finish line promises a crown, not for flash, but for faith kept in the dark. Endurance grows when hope is set on that day. [08:53] 4. Remember setbacks still serve God Service is for God, not for personal success metrics. Contentment in low and high seasons guards the heart from quitting or boasting. When people slide back, repentance is still the road home and mercy is still the surprise. Nothing offered to God is wasted.
