BRANTINGHAM: East Riding of Yorkshire Parish #23 of 172
This is a lovely village I've got for you today, one which is steeped in local history for a lot of reasons. First off, you can't fail to miss the war memorial in this place. It was made from the remains of the Victorian Town Hall in Hull in 1922, and it's been jokingly referred to since as the "most lovably awful thing" in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Good start, no? Well, look a bit deeper - we also have a raised iron pump in the centre of the village which would have been used to fill up horse drawn carts' water buckets, and the pump gives it's name to the hill at which it stands at the foot of - the very steep Spout Hill, which I take you for a drive down in this video. Unlike Ellerker, the beck that runs through this village is much smaller and you're less likely to fall in it, but you might want to try avoiding the village pond, because although that's shallow, the ducks might not thank you for falling into that! The pond is overlooked by a Hall, along with loads of other properties that were built using local limestone, and you certainly do get the former Estate village vibe when in this one. The boundaries extend a long way South to take in the likes of Brough Golf Club and one of the five UK sites of APS Group, who provide the most tomatoes to the British supply chain than anywhere else in the UK. Hull Ionians Rugby Club play here, likely named as such thanks to the presence of the Roman villa that was discovered on The Outgang in 1941. Yes, there's a lot to take in, but one things for sure, you'll love the village of BRANTINGHAM. **** My name is Andy. I am armed with a car, a GoPro and an unhealthy amount of time on my hands.
