CTP Information Exchange: ASFPM 2D Modeling Outreach

Science and technology for flood hazard identification and flood risk assessments has advanced throughout the 50-year history of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) are the most prevalent cartographic tool used to help communities understand their flooding risks and provide the backbone of effective floodplain management. Flood hazard identification has historically utilized one dimensional engineering modeling. More recently engineers have begun using two-dimensional modeling for identifying flood hazards. ASFPM has developed some 2D Outreach documents for community floodplain managers and is in the process of developing some training materials for floodplain managers. This webinar will present information on these outreach materials and training being developed.
