From Lavish Wedding to Murder: Rachel Kutumela’s Husband Arrested in R10 Million Insurance Case

The alleged insurance murder case involving former police officer Rachel Raesetja Shokane Kutumela has taken another dramatic turn. On Tuesday morning, police arrested her husband, David Kutumela, a school principal in Moletjie, Limpopo, shortly after he arrived at work. This arrest comes two years after Rachel Kutumela herself was arrested while reporting for duty as a police officer. Investigators believe the couple and several family members may have been part of a large insurance-killing syndicate operating in Limpopo. Authorities allege that between 2013 and 2022, the group took out insurance policies on vulnerable individuals through major insurers and banks including ABSA, Standard Bank, Capitec, Hollard, Old Mutual and Clientele Life. After the deaths of the insured victims, investigators say the suspects allegedly claimed more than R10 million in insurance payouts.
