SEED has a largely Malagasy staff base, running a wide-range of sustainable development projects working with the likes of UNICEF, the Big Lottery Fund and the Darwin Initiative. SEED has built 36 schools and installed over 100 water points. It's improved sanitation across the south east. It’s worked with thousands of pregnant mothers improving key indicators on maternal health and has worked to change the national curriculum on sexual health across the country. livelihoods work includes projects covering beekeeping, marine harvesting, embroidery and reed weaving, all of which generate income for thousands of families. Under conservation, it’s work is safeguarding numerous endangered and endemic species while keeping communities needs paramount. During the current pandemic, SEED has been working closely with communities in urban and rural settings, supporting practices to reduce transmission. Whilst recorded fatalities to Covid thankfully currently remains low, the secondary effects of the pandemic are becoming devastating. Rising prices and deepening poverty are resulting in food insecurity spreading across this island nation. In this backdrop, SEED is seeking funds to redouble its efforts to support communities to generate sustainable income and improved nutrition, whilst also distributing food to those most in need.
