Growing heather - what do heathers like? Heathers are shrubs with bud-shaped or bell-shaped, honey-producing flowers. They have perennial, woody stems. They grow in a cushion-like shape to a height of 12-60 cm. Their leaves are evergreen, and depending on the variety, they can be lime, yellow, orange, silver, or green. Sometimes, after frosts, heathers turn russet, red, or brown. Don't worry, they return to their "normal" color in spring. Heather flowers can be many shades of pink, purple, red, white, or lime green. They bloom from August to October. When to plant heather? Planting heather can be done in spring or autumn; heather seedlings are available at garden centers then. Heathers prefer a sunny, well-drained location that never stands water. They are very sensitive to waterlogging. Heathers in a Pot How to plant heathers in pots? Just like in the ground. The pot must have drainage—some of the planters look beautiful, so I use them as pots. I drill holes in the bottom of the pot in three places—this allows excess water to drain freely. What should we do to ensure that the plants thrive in our interiors? Choose a location with plenty of light – the closer to a window and sunlight, the better. Water the plants regularly.
