In French, we always add an article in front of the noun, and Le La Les are no exception to the rule. We use them with: Abstract nouns Concrete nouns in a general way Languages and school subjects Continents, countries, and provinces Metrics Date and days of the week Body parts Parler le In front of H, le and la will change to l' when followed by a word starting with a silent h (h muet).
