Frequency of AC Mains | Physics | SNS Institutions
#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking In the **sonometer experiment**, the frequency of a vibrating string is determined by studying the conditions under which the string resonates. A stretched wire fixed on a sonometer box is set into vibration using a tuning fork of known frequency. When the vibrating length of the wire is adjusted with movable bridges, resonance occurs and the sound produced becomes loud and clear. At this condition, the frequency of the vibrating wire is equal to the frequency of the tuning fork. By measuring the resonating length of the wire and knowing the tension and mass per unit length, the frequency of the vibrating string can be calculated using the relation ( f = 1/2l sqrt T/mu). Thus, the experiment verifies the laws of vibrating strings and helps in finding the frequency accurately.
