Depreciation and amortization are accounting and tax methods used to determine the cost of an investment over its useful life. Initial investments require an outflow of money; once classified as non-current assets, the methods for depreciation and amortization are determined to allocate the amounts to the cost centers of an investment project or in the case of normal operations.
