So Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, "Give me your vineyard as my possession, so that I may have it as a vegetable garden, for it adjoins my house. And I will give you a better vineyard for it than this, unless it seems good to you that I give you money as payment for it." Naboth replied, "The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my ancestors." So Ahab came to his house, bitter and enraged at the words that Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, saying, "I will not give you the inheritance of my ancestors." Then he lay down on his bed, turned away, and ate nothing. Soon Jezebel his wife came to him and asked him, "Why is your spirit so troubled that you eat nothing?" He answered her, "Because I have spoken with Naboth the Jezreelite. I said to him, 'Sell me your vineyard for money, or if you wish, I will give you another in its place.' But he said, 'I will not give you my vineyard.' Then Jezebel, his wife, said to him, 'Now you are the king of Israel. Arise, eat, and be of good cheer. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.'" Then she wrote letters in Ahab's name, sealed it with his seal, and sent them to the elders and officials who were in the city, neighboring Naboth. In the letters she wrote: "Proclaim a fast and make Naboth sit before the people. And make two wicked men sit opposite him, and they shall testify against him, saying, 'You have blasphemed God and the king.' Then take him out and stone him to death." His fellow citizens, the elders, and the nobles who lived in the city did as Jezebel had commanded them and as was written in the letters she had sent them. So they proclaimed a fast and made Naboth sit before the people. Then two wicked men came and sat before him and testified against him, saying, "Naboth has blasphemed God and the king." So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death. Then they sent to Jezebel to say, "Naboth has been stoned and is dead." So when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, she said to Ahab, "Arise, take possession of Naboth the Jezreelite's vineyard, which he refused to give you for money, for Naboth is dead, but is dead." As soon as Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he immediately rose to go down to Naboth the Jezreelite's vineyard and take possession of it. Matthew 5:38-42 Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, do not resist an evil man; but if someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. If anyone wants to go to law with you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak too. If someone forces you to go a thousand paces, go two thousand.
