Today we'll teach Lazzo a new trick using, as always, only positive reinforcement training techniques. Below, we explain step by step how to teach your dog the rollover trick: This trick starts from the down position, so the first thing you should do is teach your dog to lie down. Once your dog has mastered the down command, ask him to lie down in front of you and bring a treat close to his nose without letting him take it. Get him to bring his nose towards your shoulder by turning your hand so that your palm is now facing down, while simultaneously making an arc with your arm above his head. When trying to follow the treat with his nose, the dog will tend to roll onto his side. At that moment, no matter how small the movement your dog makes in the right direction, reward him with the treat and lots of praise. - Repeat the movement several times before moving on to the next step. Once your dog can easily perform the previous step, continue moving your hand so your dog has to roll onto the opposite side. As soon as they roll, give them the treat and reward them generously with praise. After repeating the exercise many times to reinforce what they've learned, try to get them to roll from one side to the other in a single movement. When you see that they're starting to do it well, following your hand, it's time to add the command "roll over!" If the exercise is taught correctly and you have a motivated dog, you can teach this rolling trick in about 5 minutes. Obviously, to perfect the movement, you'll need to practice for several days.
