This week, "The Joy of Books" focuses on young people, welcoming two novelists particularly gifted at portraying them and exploring their concerns: Fanny Taillandier and François Bégaudeau. In "Sicario Baby" (Rivages), Taillandier recounts the simultaneously whimsical and tragic saga of a young couple in love, still teenagers, who are expecting a child but clash with society and are drawn into a strange spiral of crime. In "Desertion" (Verticales), Bégaudeau imagines the journey of a young man from a rural background who seeks meaning in his life and joins the fight in Syria. In their conversation with Claire Chazal, they will both demonstrate how literature can shine, without ever becoming tedious, by addressing the world today.
