Christmas preparations at the homestead in Norway

Indoors, the house is filled with Christmas atmosphere, even though outside it feels more like a grey autumn day. There is a strange absence of frost and snow this year. The sheep are fed hay, the pigs enjoy fresh spruce branches, and the Muscovy ducks are the only ones truly thriving in the mild weather, happily bathing in the unfrozen pond. With only a few days left until Christmas, we polish the silver using wood ash, bake “sirupsnipper” and sandkaker”, to old Norwegian Christmas cookies and sit down to a bowl of porridge. Everything is done by hand, and all the baking happens in the wood stove. Life off grid does not always follow plans, and this year the pre-Christmas season has been no exception. As a result, this video is a little shorter than usual, we are so sorry about this. We would like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, and thank you for following along with us throughout 2025.
