The birthday of Pavel Khramov, the head of security at a major bank, almost became the day of his death. A former colleague of the detective (surnamed "Chef") was subject to an attempted poisoning at a celebratory banquet. Not wanting to draw the attention of the bank's management to this tragic incident, Khramov asks the detective to conduct his own investigation. A suspect is Stepan Voevodkin, a former informant of Khramov's who was recently released from prison. Voevodkin was at the same restaurant at the time of the incident. However, it soon turns out that Voevodkin has an alibi. However, all is not well in the Khramov family; Khramov has a protracted conflict with his son, Denis. The detectives suspect the son may be trying to get rid of his father over the apartment they share and are placing Denis under surveillance. It turns out that Denis has a wealthy mistress who is demanding a divorce from his wife. The detectives plan to continue their investigation of Denis, but an attempt is made on his life: someone hits him over the head with a piece of metal rebar, and Denis miraculously survives. Evidence discovered at the crime scene points against Denis's mistress, Aglaya, and she is detained, but trace evidence proves Aglaya's innocence. Meanwhile, the detective's assistants discover that Denis's wife, Lyuba, is pregnant by another man and, on the Chief's orders, are placing her under surveillance. Lyuba is dating a taxi driver named Shavkat, originally from Uzbekistan. The detectives theorize that Lyuba, fearing exposure, has decided to eliminate her husband and father-in-law. To test this theory, they provoke Lyuba, who reveals herself by attacking the detective's assistant with a knife. Lyuba explains her attempt to get rid of the Khramovs by saying that they would certainly have kicked her out of the house if they had realized the child wasn't her husband's. Lyuba didn't want an abortion; she fell in love with Shavkat and dreamed of starting a new life with him... #detectives #detectiveseries
