After 90+ ocean cruises, we were hesitant about river cruising until this experience completely changed our perspective. The Restaurant offers flexible seating with regional specialties and always-available options. Al Fresco provides a bright, airy setting with a unique dinner menu and extended breakfast hours. Jimmy's serves family-style dining with Irish influences, while the intimate Chef's Table presents an exquisite 7-course tasting experience. The quality and variety of food exceeded our expectations, with local ingredients featured prominently throughout the cruise. 🌟 SHIP AMENITIES As a double-wide vessel, AmaMagna offers significantly more space than typical river ships. The expanded dimensions allow for luxuries rarely found on European waterways: a full-sized heated pool and hot tub, dedicated pickleball court, comprehensive fitness center with spin bikes, and a proper spa with massage services and hair salon. Additional conveniences include complimentary self-service laundry, a cinema room, and multiple lounges. This spacious design creates an experience that feels more like a boutique hotel than a traditional river ship. 💼 WHAT'S INCLUDED AmaWaterways provides a nearly all-inclusive experience with multiple shore excursion options in each port, most at no additional cost. We explored both the Buda and Pest sides of Budapest (pre-cruise stay at Aria Hotel recommended), the charming coronation city of Bratislava in Slovakia, the picturesque Wachau Valley with stops in Weissenkirchen, Dürnstein and Melk Abbey, a full-day excursion to Mozart's birthplace in Salzburg, and an overnight in Vienna featuring Imperial architecture and classical music. This week-long itinerary offered an ideal introduction to river cruising. 👎 WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED We found storage space in our standard stateroom limited, with no seating area beyond the desk. There was a noticeable lack of enrichment activities during scenic cruising days, with minimal educational programming about the regions we visited. Some alternative dining venues served menus too similar to the main restaurant, and public spaces like the Cinema and Library seemed under-utilized.
