The commodities highlighted include palm oil, nickel, gold, and various other Indonesian mining products. Prabowo made this statement during a speech at a plenary session at the House of Representatives (DPR/MPR) Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (May 20, 2026). "We find it strange that we are the world's largest palm oil producer, but the price of palm oil is determined by other countries. I told my ministers that this must not happen. I want the price of our palm oil to be determined by other nations; we set our own prices," Prabowo said. According to Prabowo, Indonesia, as a major global commodity producer, should have the sovereignty to determine the prices of its own products. He believes the current situation is still unreasonable because the prices of several national commodities are influenced by other countries. Prabowo also instructed his ministers to begin formulating an independent pricing system for Indonesia's strategic commodities. He emphasized that the government wants national palm oil prices to no longer be determined by external parties. In addition to palm oil, Prabowo also highlighted the price of Indonesian nickel, which he believes is still influenced by other countries' markets. Therefore, the government was asked to develop a pricing formula for nickel, gold, and various other mining commodities to better align with national interests. Prabowo believes that Indonesia should not force sales if other countries are unwilling to buy at the government-set prices. He believes that Indonesia's natural resources are better utilized domestically or saved for the benefit of future generations than sold at low prices.
