Incident Investigation: Worker on Scissor Lift Electrocuted | WorkSafeBC
This video recreates an incident where a young worker performing service checks on a scissor lift got too close to an overhead power line and was electrocuted. Overhead power lines and elevating equipment can be a dangerous mix if you’re not properly trained to operate a scissor lift safely. In this incident investigation slide show, we learn that you don't even have to touch a power line to get electrocuted. Similar to lightning, electricity can jump across an air gap (flashover) and cause serious injury or death. This educational video is a helpful training tool for workers who operate scissors lifts and boom lifts. It’s important to educate workers about the hazards, and to implement appropriate risk controls. Learn more about working safely around electricity at https://www.worksafebc.com/electricity.
