Instructions are shouted from a police car with loud speakers on. There is a funfair next to the tracks. Amongst the crowd are people holding placards with religious slogans on. Various shots gypsies and horse drawn caravans in a field. According to narrator the gypsies have been banned from Epsom Downs. Lady Grant has given them permission to camp on her land. More shots of crowds. Various shots of cars driving past cheering crowds - they contain Royal Family. M/S of King George VI (formerly Prince Albert, Duke of York) and Princess Mary, the Princess Royal. Various shots of jockeys getting onto horses and being lead out of enclosure. Various shots of large board with jockeys' names on. High angled shot of horses being ridden onto course. Narrator introduces "our Northern commentator" - we hear a child's voice talking about jockey Steve Donoghue (quite indistinct, difficult to hear). M/S of cameramen operating newsreel camera with massive lens - "the world's largest newsreel lens". Various C/Us of Royal Family in their box, taken with special camera: Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mother) laughing and talking to King George VI, Queen Mary, Duke of Gloucester (Prince Henry ) and Duchess of Gloucester, Duke of Kent (Prince George) and Duchess of Kent (Princess Marina). Duchess of Kent is wearing striking pair of sunglasses. L/S of start of race. Good C/Us of King and Queen watching it through binoculars. Various shots of race: the winner is Middaysun (Midday Sun) owned by Mrs Miller, Mrs Nagel's Sandsprite (Sand Sprite) comes second.
