How to Make Mini Fire Hose Cube Enrichment for Chimpanzees

Watch the Project Chimps team build a mini fire hose cube for former research chimpanzees! Chimps now living in permanent sanctuary love fire hose cubes because our caregivers stuff the gaps with nuts and seeds that they have to work to extract - like a puzzle! If you or your organization would like to make some for the chimps, just contact your local fire station and ask if they have any lengths of used fire hose they will give you. The width of the hose can vary, as you'll see. The tools and parts you'll need are described in the video. This is a GREAT project for scout groups and student projects with some support from adults. Please ship any completed cubes to Project Chimps, 2031 Lowery Road, Morganton, GA 30536. If you live near north Georgia, you're welcome to drop them off on the porch of our Gatehouse, but please understand that the sanctuary is not open to the public on a daily basis and there won't be an opportunity to see the chimps unless you've already booked a visit for one of our scheduled events (check out projectchimps.org/visit for details). Questions? Just email us at [email protected] Project Chimps is a special sanctuary for chimpanzees retired from medical research. The sanctuary is privately funded so every donation, like fire hose cubes, helps us provide food, care and shelter for the chimps.
