Rusty's Rock Slider Steps Installation on a Jeep Wrangler JL 2018-2023

Welcome back for a new install on our 2023 Jeep Wrangler JLUR, which the fancy people like to break down into the initials for JL Unlimited Rubicon!! These are Rusty's Off Road Slider Steps for the 2013-2023 Jeep Wrangler. Everyone who has a JL knows that the body mount bolts can be really stubborn due to the red Loctite used on those long bolts, and the captured nuts that are up inside the body which you cannot access. So breaking one of these bolts off or snapping a body bolt is the last thing that anyone wants to have happen. For that reason, everyone recommends using hand tools to loosen and tighten these body bolts back up. Now with that part over, the next obstacle was getting the new slider mounts to line up with the Jeep frame. A little persuasion with some drill bits, step drill bits, and carbide bits helped enlarge the holes in the new side steps to get them to bolt up to the frame properly without any damage to the studs from the Jeep's body mounts or anything else. Follow along as one idiot of a man attempts to do this himself and forgets the tools he has in his toolbox that could have made life a lot easier with the first side that was installed. Update: The front frame brace on the passenger side had to be removed so that the forward-most bolt could be drilled and mounted. There was a terrible creaking sounds produced by frame versus slider movement, and adding that bolt fixed it right up. That process of removing the brace on the 2023 Wrangler wasn't fun either. Side step is flat, not angled upward The Rusty’s JL Side Step Rocker Armor, Side Step Rock Sliders, provide valuable protection from rocks and other obstacles on the trail, a convenient step to help with entry, and are a simple bolt-on installation! Rusty’s JL Side Step Rocker Armor was built with trail abuse in mind. Constructed of 2″ x 0.188″-wall DOM tubing, they are strong enough to withstand trail impacts and can even be used as a jack point if needed. The tubing is laser cut and formed in a CNC tubing bender and then placed in a jig and welded by our craftsmen for an exact fit. The rockers feature a second tube, also 2 inch tubing that is bent and welded outward to provide additional door protection, and in between the tubing is a step that has been dimple-died for strength and a non-slip surface. The rockers bolt firmly to the frame using the supplied grade 8 hardware, drilling is required for 6 extra mounting holes on each side. There is no welding required for installation. To top it off, they come with a durable satin black powder coated finish.
