"Garfield: Am I Cool or What?" Full Album (24-Bit Digital Stereo Transfer) [w/ FLAC & MP3 Download]
"Garfield: Am I Cool or What?" is a contemporary/jazz album released in 1991 by Grusin-Rosen Productions (GRP Records). This is my personal cassette that I found at a yard sale. In December 2018, I uploaded a digital transfer of my "Garfield: Am I Cool or What?" tape to YouTube. It was captured from a Quasar boombox into my Gateway laptop through a 1/8" cable. While the recordings were high quality, the Quasar played the tape 3% faster than the actual speed with emphasis on the lower frequencies, resulting in a lack of fidelity. This new 48 kHz 24-bit digital transfer was sourced from the same tape and captured using professional audio hardware and software. I hope you agree that this new transfer has enhanced clarity and fidelity compared to my older upload. The tape deck used for playback was a Sony TC-WE475 refurbished with new drive belts and a thorough head cleaning on both decks. Two recordings, one for each side, were captured in 48/24 WAV on a TASCAM Portacapture X8 digital recorder, and the recorded lossless files were split and exported to FLAC, MP3, and WAV using Adobe Audition 2024. To create this video, the WAV files & cover artwork were imported into Adobe Premiere 2024 and titles were added to highlight the currently playing song & display copyright information. The tracks were assembled in such a way as to create a gapless experience while listening. Finally, the video was exported in Apple ProRes 422 @ 2560 x 1440 resolution with PCM audio. GRP Records is well known in the music industry for pushing the contemporary jazz sound to its fullest and recording it all *digitally*—a technology we use daily but at the time still under development. Though the CD release provides the highest possible sound quality for the consumer's enjoyment, I personally find the cassette release to provide an added warmth and saturation to the music. Kicks and bass notes seem fuller, highs and snares are crisp but not irritating, and the additional noise makes the music fills in the gaps where the lighter instrumentation could sound hollow. A well-preserved audio tape played on studio quality equipment delivers exceptional sound each time, no matter its age.
