Famicom Disk System Infomercial feat. Zelda no Densetsu & Nazo no Murasamejô (w/Eng. Subs)
Rescued from a now gone YouTube upload, this was an infomercial Nintendo produced to tell the public all about its new Famicom peripheral, the Disk System. The video shows how the system is setup with the Famicom, how to start a game, what to expect from the system as the game loads and what the Disk System can do that ordinary cartridges cannot. To showcase the enhanced features of the disk system, Nintendo chose to focus on two of its most impressive games in development for the peripheral, the Legend of Zelda (THE HYRULE FANTASY ゼルダの伝説) & The Mysterious Murasame Castle (謎の村雨城). Both games are shown in a pre-release state. Things to note in Zelda is the choice you get between the sword and the boomerang, the speed of the enemies and the differences in the dungeons. Musasame Castle as uses music with significantly different instrumentation than in the released game. The disk writer's operation is also shown, with a "cartridge slot" that looks very NES-like in its operation. The original video which was uploaded to YouTube (and subsequently downloaded) had a section of audio removed to avoid a content ID claim from 3:10-3:59. I spliced the missing audio back in using a lower quality source. The restored audio includes game music, sound effects, narration and voice acting, so I thought it was worthwhile. While this video is elsewhere on YouTube, here it is in the best quality known to exist and in its most complete form. English subtitles have now been added for the voice-over narration. Note that while the Famicom Disk System's media is referred to as a "Disk Card" throughout, the subtitles use the more familiar term "floppy disk". Similarly, the voice over refers to "cassettes" but the translation uses the term "cartridge" in these instances.
