BMW R-18 2021 - pierwsze wrażenia z jazdy

Welcome to my YouTube channel and another video in the "First Ride Impressions" series. This time, it's time for a test ride of BMW's latest cruiser, the R-18 motorcycle with the largest boxer engine ever produced by this manufacturer. As always, the test bike was lent to me by the BMW M-CARS showroom in Krakow: https://www.bmw-motorrad.pl/mcars-kra... The BMW R-18 motorcycle is powered by an air- and oil-cooled 1802 cc engine. It features a traditional design, with chain-driven camshafts in the housing and long pushrods controlling the valves in the heads. This type of design doesn't generate particularly high revs or power, as the engine only produces 91 hp (4,750 rpm). However, the engine delivers a massive 158 Nm of torque (3,000 rpm), and 150 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm. Unfortunately, due to its large rotating masses, the engine generates very bothersome vibrations, starting at around 2,700 rpm. Mated to the engine is a six-speed dog gearbox, which is connected by a single-disc, dry, hydraulically assisted clutch. The gears engage precisely, although the lever throws are long. The motorcycle is made almost entirely of steel, making it a very heavy cruiser. When fully submerged, it weighs a whopping 345 kg. Fortunately, an electric reverse gear is available for around 4,500 PLN. Without it, it would be difficult to reverse this motorcycle up even a slight incline. I really liked the blend of tradition and modernity in this machine, as BMW didn't forget about safety, installing not only an effective integrated braking system with ABS, but also traction control and three riding modes. We also have full LED lighting with a cornering function, beautiful oval turn signals at the front, and at the rear, which function as running lights, brake lights, and turn signals. I also like the minimalist speedometer with a small but high-contrast display. The only detail that detracts from this beautiful machine, in my opinion, is the ugly plastic oil cooler cover; this cheap plastic is completely out of keeping with the rest of the motorcycle. During the ride, I was able to test how this machine handles, and I must admit that the machine handles corners very well despite its considerable weight, length, and width of the engine. The rider's footrests are placed quite high, allowing for significant folding in corners. Unfortunately, this causes the legs to be raised significantly, which is not very comfortable when leaned forward. I also didn't like the hassle of refueling the machine, due to the centrally located bulkhead under the filler neck, which kept the nozzle from bouncing off. However, it's a complete scandal that this year's new motorcycle, priced at 109,000 PLN with this equipment, already shows signs of rust on the outside of the tank filler neck. Couldn't German engineers really do a better job of galvanizing this part? Overall, the motorcycle makes a very good impression, but honestly, I know many cruisers that offer more comfort while riding, including a more comfortable riding position. In the video, you'll also see a road accident recorded by my camera: a collision between two vehicles at a pedestrian crossing. This is another example of the importance of maintaining proper distances between vehicles. Please rate and comment on the video. Let me know what you think of the new BMW cruiser and what you think of the pros and cons I've shown. Best regards, RafałB ;)
