CED stereo demo disc
From 1982, this is an instore disc showing off the new stereo sound capability added to CED videodiscs. Since it runs 45 minutes I've cut out most of the actual demo material, leaving in only what's original to this disc. I think these girls were on a Doublemint commercial, but not sure. Stereo was planned for the format from the start, but didn't come on the market until about a year later. Stereo was encoded on the discs the same way as FM and analog TV- the player "decodes" the stereo signal, and mono discs still play in plain old mono (no noise in stereo or drifting from one side to the other like sometimes happens on other formats.) Curiously, RCA and the term "Selectavision" are never mentioned on this disc. We never get to see a player or any other equipment here either. A lot of the discs featured weren't even available at the time this disc came out- some were only in mono having been issued earlier, a few were reissued in stereo later, sometimes on other labels (such as Grease and Saturday Night Fever on Paramount's own label.) Many of the covers shown here are different from the final product too.
