The Sánchez family's lavish vacation is at risk. The trip to Turkey and London, using as excuses the NATO summit that Pedro Sánchez is scheduled to attend and his daughter's graduation—as if there weren't people in the same situation in other legal proceedings or in prisons—depends on Judge Juan Carlos Peinado's decision on whether or not to return the passport seized from the defendant Begoña Gómez as part of the precautionary measures imposed. The wife of the PSOE leader has asked the magistrate presiding over the case, in which she is being investigated for five offenses, to allow her to accompany the Prime Minister on the official trip, suspending the travel ban and returning her passport. However, the Prime Minister's partner does not hold official status—the title of First Lady or First Gentleman belongs to the Queen. The Constitution neither recognizes nor stipulates any powers for the Prime Minister's partner. Therefore, she has no public salary or official duties, so accompanying her partner on official trips is neither a duty nor an obligation. However, even if the judge returns Begoña Gómez's passport, that doesn't mean Sánchez's wife can enjoy the summer as she pleases. Among the precautionary measures is the obligation to appear in court every two weeks to prove she hasn't fled. Therefore, she will have to comply with this requirement regardless of what happens with the passport and the international tour. That said, the presidential couple will have to wait until July 13 to find out if they can fully enjoy their lavish vacation, paid for by the long-suffering taxpayer, since on that day the Provincial Court will review the appeal filed by their defense to lift the precautionary measures.
