By the late 1980s and 1990s he was operating at the highest levels of organised crime, working alongside notorious Liverpool drug lord Curtis Warren and dealing directly with figures connected to the Colombian Cali Cartel. At the height of the operation, tonnes of cocaine were being moved into Europe through complex international networks stretching from South America to the streets of Britain. Investigators later uncovered a vast distribution network importing drugs worth hundreds of millions of pounds. Mee’s criminal career eventually caught up with him. Arrested in the Netherlands during a major police operation targeting the network, he spent years inside some of Europe’s toughest prisons before returning to the UK to serve a long sentence. Now, after spending more than a decade behind bars, Mee reflects on the reality of life inside organised crime — the money, the violence, the betrayals and the consequences.
