Upon her arrival at the Civil Guard Officers' Academy, the Queen was greeted by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska; the Government Delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín; the Director General of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González; the Chief of Personnel Command of the Civil Guard, Lieutenant General Eduardo Martínez Viqueira; and the Director of the Civil Guard Officers' Academy, Colonel Jorge Montero. Subsequently, in the main lobby, she greeted the Director of the Civil Guard University Center, Lieutenant General Félix Blázquez; the Chief of Training of the Civil Guard, Brigadier General Manuel López; and various other Academy officials. During her visit to the center, Queen Letizia observed various training activities conducted by the Academy's students, including a Tactical Level Command and Control exercise for the second year of the Professional Development program. This exercise, carried out using the LEADER simulator at the Guardia Civil University Center, recreated a simulated crisis scenario following a terrorist attack in a shopping center. Students had to organize patrols, distribute resources, and make real-time tactical decisions in a constantly evolving situation. The exercise was designed to develop command, coordination, and operational leadership skills, while also fostering teamwork, role assignment, and human resource management. The system also incorporates artificial intelligence tools that allow for subsequent analysis of the students' decisions and offer suggestions for improvement to reinforce practical learning. Her Majesty the Queen also attended a Public Safety Operations and Police Self-Defense skills exercise conducted by fourth-year Direct Entry students. During the exercise, a simulated police roadside checkpoint was set up to identify suspicious vehicles. Students had to apply intervention and control techniques when one of the drivers resisted, while maintaining road safety at all times. The visit showcased the comprehensive training model that future Civil Guard officers receive, designed to strengthen professional excellence, leadership, and adaptability to the new challenges of public safety. It also highlighted the incorporation of new technologies and innovative teaching methodologies related to artificial intelligence and specialized training. Following this, Her Majesty the Queen held a meeting with professors and students of the Academy, where they discussed various aspects related to the training of Civil Guard officers, the evolution of the Institution, and future challenges linked to an increasingly diverse and complex society. As part of this meeting, a round table discussion was held with the participation of students from different entry pathways and ranks, along with faculty from the Academy, center administrators, and representatives from the Guardia Civil University Center. During the meeting, an overview of the training of future officers was presented, addressing student experiences, the educational model, values and leadership development, and the integration of university education with police and military training. Following the meeting, Her Majesty the Queen signed the Academy's Book of Honor, and the visit concluded with a meeting between Queen Letizia and Academy students in the center's dining hall. The Guardia Civil Officers' Academy is the result of the evolution of officer training within the Corps over more than a century. Since the late 19th century, various training centers existed for officer preparation until 1999, when the training of officers for both direct entry and internal promotion was unified into a single Academy. One of the main advances in the current training model came in 2007 with the integration of university education alongside military and police training, through the creation of the Guardia Civil University Center, affiliated with the Carlos III University of Madrid. This model allows future officers to obtain undergraduate and master's degrees alongside their professional training. Currently, the Officers' Academy is the center responsible for training future Guardia Civil commanders, both those entering directly and those promoted through career advancement, as well as providing training courses for officer promotions.
