Unlocking Private Capital for Renewables: SRMI's Support to Mission 300
The Sustainable Renewables Risk Mitigation Initiative (SRMI) — ESMAP's flagship program for helping governments attract private capital through well-structured competitive tenders — is playing a central role in Mission 300 countries' efforts to expand renewable energy infrastructure at competitive cost, a cornerstone of their National Energy Compacts. This session will trace SRMI's journey with client countries: from upstream technical assistance and tender design through to financial close. It will examine what competitive tenders can realistically deliver across diverse country contexts, and where complementary risk mitigation instruments remain essential to unlock investment at scale. Expect candid lessons from the field and early signals on what is working — and what it will take to accelerate affordable renewable energy across the continent.
