Dealing with creative anxiety and fear: confidence for writers.
My brain is mush but I'm trying to sum up a 23,000 word chapter that I need to condense into about 5,000 words. The basic, core structure and idea is sound, but I'm struggling a bit with implementation. 1. I have nothing to live for! (purpose) Passion: Joy (motivation) 2. If I could wish, I could do! (plan) Plan: Value (market) 3. Why should I wish? I could not do! (skill) Skill: Craft (mastery) Choose joy, respect your readers, hone your craft. A 3 step process of creative production. Then I have an awkwardish transition into the contrast between the fool and the magician; or the amateur (one who writes for love) rather than the expert (one who writes from experience). This is a replacement for the current, negative ideology that says you're either an artist or a hack; that artist are literary purists who write their soul's private voice, and the hack is the skilled manipulator who writes books readers love to buy. That it's better to be a starving artist than it is to be a celebrated hack; and somehow egregious to write good books on purpose and get paid for your writing mastery. Get the whole thing (finished!) on www.writethemagic.com, where I've posted a lot of new stuff about productivity, mindset, procrastination and creative anxiety.
