As some of you may know, I'm a wide music lover, and krautrock make no exception. When I discovered Can while in high school while studying Skolimowski's "Deep End", I was like "wow, they were already doing that stuff back in 1970 ? Come on !" "Tago Mago" and "Future Days" became staples of my own musical education, and while some of my young friends were getting high listening to Pink Floyd (another band I love, btw), I was getting high listening to Can. To each his own, I guess... Anyway, back then, I would only listen to the Damo Suzuki era. Around that time I was also big on Madchester bands like Happy Mondays and Primal Scream, and I marveled how both bands were stealing from Can. Then, after I had the biggest musical thrill of my life after discovering Talking Heads, I was looking for anything sounding like "Remain In Light". There came Can again, and their "Saw Delight" record. "Saw Delight" might not be their best album, it's one of their last actually, but you can tell they were listening to african music like hi-life, that kind of stuff. This was exactly what I was looking for. Since then, "Saw Delight" became one of my favourite albums from Can, right next to the other two I mentionned before. Since I'm a big live music fan, I was wondering how the band was sounding during those days. John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) remembers that the first time he saw Can in 1976, the bass was so loud their stage collapsed. Listening to this bootleg, I can see why... About this boot, I was lucky to find it on soulseek and to discover that this particular recording is a true gem. The concert was recorded and broadcasted only once on the BBC, but by chance someone recorded the whole thing. Some guy called Fizz remastered it and now it sounds heavenly, almost like an official live record. I'd like to thank this/those guys for the awesome job they did on the tape. There might be another Can live gig from 1977 I'll upload in the near future.
