No Misery Please — A Tribute to Ginger Wildheart

Some news hits differently when the person is someone who's provided the soundtrack to your whole life. I've met Ginger Wildheart a few times. He most likely wouldn't remember, but for me those memories are treasured and close to my heart. The Wildhearts were one of the first rock bands I truly fell in love with — back when they were all over Top of the Pops and Kerrang! was basically my bible. And Ginger always stood out, not just for the songs, but for who he was. In a world full of rock star posturing, he was always just... himself. Candid, honest, grounded. Your friendly local rock star. So when I heard that Ginger Wildheart has been diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma — a rare blood cancer — and has been given two to three years to live, it genuinely got to me. In this video I want to pay tribute to the man and the band properly. I'll talk about what The Wildhearts meant to me growing up, and why they deserved to be so much bigger than they ever were. And I'll tell you about the times I actually got to meet Ginger and the band in the early 2000s when they were touring with The Darkness — they say you should never meet your heroes but that's nonsense, I met mine and they were every bit as awesome as I'd hoped, especially Ginger. He said: "No misery please. Positivity all the way. I'll be rocking until the very last moment." So here is my positive (to the best of my ability) celebration of the greatest, most criminally underrated band and frontman there has ever been in UK rock history. If this resonates with you, please give it a like and share it with a fellow Wildhearts fan — let's make sure Ginger knows how loved he is.
